Dallas Home Remodeling: Looking Back at Two Incredible Remodeling Stories

A look at the completed Lochwood second-story addition by Eric Cantu Remodeling. The exterior masterfully integrates modern vertical wood siding and a bold dark gray upper level with the home's original painted brick foundation, beautifully expanding the living space without compromising the neighborhood's mid-century character. #ThrowbackThursday
For this week's throwback, we are stepping into two of our favorite North Dallas neighborhoods to look back at two unique home transformations: a extensive second-story story addition in Lochwood and an innovative indoor-outdoor kitchen remodel in Lake Highlands. Both projects demonstrate how classic Dallas homes can be reimagined to suit a modern lifestyle without losing their original character.
The Lochwood Story: Adding a Second Story for Growing Families
Classic ranch-style homes are a staple of the beautiful, tree-lined Lochwood neighborhood. However, as families grow, finding more space without moving away from the neighborhood can be a challenge.
For this Lochwood area project, the solution was building straight up. We added a stunning second-story addition that seamlessly integrated with the original architecture. By transforming unused attic space into comfortable new bedrooms, bathrooms, and flexible living areas, we were able to dramatically expand the square footage. The project preserved the home's historic soul while creating high-end, functional spaces filled with natural light. Visit Dallas Home Remodeling Blog
The Lake Highlands Remodel: Bringing the Outdoors In
Over in Lake Highlands, the challenge was entirely different. The homeowners loved their mid-century layout but wanted a chef-style kitchen that made entertaining easy and took full advantage of their backyard.
The standout feature of this kitchen renovation was the custom backyard pass-through window backsplash. By replacing a traditional solid wall with a functional, opening window system over the counter, we created a seamless transition between the indoor kitchen and the exterior living space. It completely opened up the flow of the 1970s ranch home, flooding the space with natural light and creating a perfect setup for outdoor dining and family gatherings. The space features warm wood cabinetry, contemporary terrazzo countertops, a large matching island with a gold faucet, and mid-century modern globe pendant lights under a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling. #ThrowbackThursday
